Is Green Drywall the Same as the Standard Version?<\/h2>\n

Very similar to how certain paints and tiles work in different rooms of your home, there are various types of drywall construction<\/a><\/strong> that work best in certain locations.<\/p>\n

Your typical drywall works well in living and dining rooms and bedrooms, however, what about those areas where water will often come into contact with drywall? There is a specific type of drywall that is designed for these areas, and is commonly referred to by contractors as \u201cgreen board.\u201d<\/p>\n

What is green board?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Greenboard is a general term for drywall that is able to withstand high moisture or humidity levels. Although it is slowly being phased out in modern construction, you may still come across it.<\/p>\n

It is easier to install and cheaper than cement board alternatives. As the name implies, one side is green, this helps installers identify it and also helps with installation, as it helps installers identify which areas require more mud than others.<\/p>\n

Is green board waterproof?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Greenboard is water-resistant, just not waterproof. It is extremely efficient in bathrooms and kitchens, where moisture rife, however, it is not the drywall that should be set behind tile in showers or any area that comes into direct contact with water.<\/p>\n

There are a few different options for drywall that will come in contact with water, including cement board.<\/p>\n
